The most beautiful rock-climbing film ever made
digitally restored and remastered
Long regarded as the ultimate big-wall rock-climbing film, El Capitan was filmed in 1968 and, after numerous production problems and challenges, was released ten years later, winning Grand Prize honors at many international film festivals. But the years and many projections took their toll on the 16 mm film stock. Film fades and after 40 years El Capitan was no longer a dazzling visual experience. But filmmaker Fred Padula was equal to the challenge. In a herculean multi-year effort, Fred rescanned all the original film in very high definition, and painstakingly eliminated every scratch and flaw in the thousands of individual frames that make up this one-hour film. The result is amazing, far better than the original 16 mm film. A treasure.
