This monograph takes viewers to one of the most amazing and least known, least visited desert landscapes in all the Southwest, the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area, administered by the BLM about 30 miles south of Farmington New Mexico. No trails, no rangers, no visitors' center, no interpretive signes. Just pure mysterious beauty that adventurous visitors, and photographers, must discover, slowly and patiently, on their own, one twisting canyon, one wind-eroded formation at a time. The Bisti is a photographer's dream come true, a gift, a fantasy, a harsh desertscape full of surprises, impossible shapes, stark, pure and expressive geology. The Bisti takes us out of our own time, back toward the late Cretaceous, the left-over bare bones of a once lush landscape that used to belong to dinosaurs.
